My Grandad

Created by Roxanne one month ago

My grandad was a kind, caring man who would do anything for anyone. He would always be there to help, no matter the time of day or night. Ever since you left this world, my ears have been ringing with your voice saying ‘come-on girl, your stronger than this’, I can still feel your arms being wrapped round my shoulders, making the air around me smell like imperial leather.

I have so many fond memories of my grandad, but the ones that will stay with me forever, fresh in my mind, like they were yesterday.
Every weekend you would come to visit my mum, you would pull up early on a Saturday morning to take her shopping we would walk around the isles, stopping at almost every offer you seen, you loved to shop, and you loved a good bargain, especially with cornflakes and toilet roll.  Then when it came to you going home, you would have all of us kids begging you for us to stay the night at yours, everyone wanted to stay with you, because we knew we would get spoilt, as there was 4 of us kids, we  would take it in turns each week to stay with you, but little did the other person know that grandad had slipped us left behind a fiver to spend at the shops. He never left anyone out and would always make sure we never went without. Even as an adult, he would spoil us rotten and make sure we were ok.

There are so many good memories, I could carry on writing all day about you, the way you listened to Saturday night by Whingfield on repeat in your car, the time you gave me your false teeth to take onto stage, how you would always have a pocket full of foxes mints, you playing with my Liam chucking him around calling him a proper boys boy, a rough and tumble lad. My kids loved you so much, they known you as their ‘Big belly Grandad’ and you loved them dearly too. Laughing with them showing them your strange spaceship belly button.

The things I will miss the most about you, is your laugh, your smile and the way you always made everything feel like it will be ok in the end. But most of all, I will just miss you.

I will miss you every day, Grandad, until the day we meet again.
Love you always and forever.
